Our Story
We didn't start this company from a business plan. We started it from our own home. How We Started
Before this was a business, it was our own family's problem.
I'm Gus Pullen. My family owns and runs Pure Maintenance of Texas, and the reason we do this work is simple: we lived it. Before this was a business, we were just a family in a house that was slowly making us sick, and we had no idea why.
When Hurricane Harvey came through in 2017, we evacuated like so many families did. The floodwater outside rose all the way up to the brick line and sat around and under our house for the better part of two weeks. The house itself mostly stayed dry inside. The real problem was what happened next.
The power was off for close to ten days, it was hot, and the humidity had nowhere to go. In those conditions, a few hidden hot spots of mold we didn't even know we had took off. What we didn't realize then was that our home had actually been affecting our health for years. Harvey just brought it to a head.
Looking back, the signs had been there a long time. Brain fog, headaches, fatigue that sleep didn't fix, aches we couldn't explain, and a general sense that something was wrong that no one could put a finger on. We'd been to doctors. We'd chased symptoms. Nobody connected it to the house. For years we lived with it because we didn't know there was anything to find.
The hardest part wasn't being sick. It was not knowing why.
So we did what most people do. We hired a traditional remediation crew to tear out and rebuild the affected areas. It was expensive, it was invasive, and it tore our home apart. And here's the part that still gets me: it didn't fix the problem. In some ways it made things worse. Even after the demolition, our youngest still had episodes in that house that were frightening to watch, the kind of thing that makes you feel helpless as a parent. We were spending a fortune and still feeling sick in our own home.
We were close to giving up on the house entirely when we found a different approach.
In our own words
We recorded some of what we went through. It's not polished. It's just our family, telling the truth about what this was like.
What finally worked for us
The approach that changed things for our family was a patented dry fog process. Instead of tearing the house apart, it works on the whole indoor environment, reaching the mold in the air and in the hidden spaces the demolition never got to. It's non-invasive, and for us, it did what a very expensive tear-out couldn't.
After we addressed the mold in our home this way, our family finally started feeling like ourselves again. I want to be careful how I say that, because I'm not a doctor and I can't promise anyone a medical outcome. What I can tell you is our own experience: for the first time in years, our home stopped feeling like the thing that was hurting us.
That experience is the whole reason this company exists.
Why we do this
When you've spent years sick in your own home, spent a small fortune on a solution that didn't work, and finally found something that helped, you don't just move on. You want to make sure the next family doesn't have to go through all of that to get answers.
So we built Pure Maintenance of Texas as a family business, on a few simple commitments. We tell people the truth, even when it costs us the job. If we look at your situation and think you need another contractor first, a plumber, a roofer, an HVAC tech, or someone else, we'll say so. If we don't think you need us at all, we'll tell you that too. We'd rather send you in the right direction than provide a solution you don't need. We've been on your side of this, and we haven't forgotten what that felt like.
I'm here to talk it through whenever you're ready. You can reach me directly at 281-220-1425.
