How the dry fog process works

Most mold companies start with a demolition quote. We usually don't.

Our equipment turns an EPA-registered solution into a dry fog made of particles smaller than five microns. Because they're that small, they behave more like a gas than a spray. They travel the same paths airborne mold spores do, reaching surfaces and spaces that wiping and spraying never touch.

The word "dry" matters. The fog doesn't soak your walls or leave moisture behind, which is important because moisture is the whole reason mold grows in the first place. Plus, you're not living in a construction zone for a week. Most folks are back in their home the same day.

Katy’s flooding story isn’t like most towns'. The Addicks and Barker reservoirs were built in the 1940s to protect downtown Houston, back when this area was just open prairie. As Katy grew west, new neighborhoods popped up inside land meant to hold floodwater. When Hurricane Harvey hit, the Corps closed the gates to protect downtown, but water levels rose and flooded homes. Canyon Gate at Cinco Ranch has 721 homes inside this flood pool. In just the Canyon Gate and Cinco Ranch area, Fort Bend County reported about 3,000 damaged homes, including those in Kelliwood. Most families lived in Zone X, didn’t have flood insurance, and only learned they were inside a reservoir the same week their homes flooded. Harvey happened nine years ago. Most of those homes were dried out and repaired the right way. Still, we’ve seen enough flooded houses in this area to know what can go wrong if the drying process is rushed. Sometimes, the walls go back up a day or two too soon, and the house ends up with a faint smell that lingers for years and is hard to trace. Have we seen this happen in a Katy home? Not that we can say for sure. But we have found it in other parts of Houston, so it’s something to keep in mind if your house took on water and the repairs were done quickly.

Most days, the problems we see are less dramatic. In neighborhoods like Cinco Ranch and Nottingham Country, built during the 1990s boom, the original ductwork and bathroom fans don’t move air as well as they used to. Newer homes west of the Grand Parkway are sealed tight to save on electricity, but that means humidity builds up all summer in houses that rarely get opened up. The ground has changed too. The Katy Prairie once soaked up rain like a sponge, but now it’s mostly covered by rooftops and driveways, so water just sits. No matter the house, the main issue is always the same: moisture that lingers longer than it should..
